How to restore a Dell to factory original settings
If you’ve got a Dell computer (desktop or laptop) that you’d like to restore to its factory original settings, hit CTRL-F11 on boot (at the Dell logo, before the Windows logo) to bring up the built-in system restoration features. You can read more about this feature here, but basically, since 2004, Dell has included the capability on all of their computers to completely wipe off the contents of your main hard drive partition and install a fresh copy of the operating system that originally came with the computer. This comes in handy if you’ve got a system infected by a virus (like the nefarious XP Antivirus 2009) or slowed down by the Windows molasses disease that can only be repaired with a fresh installation.
