Hello World,
I've just recovered from a crash :-( I was trying to access my external hd when Windows explorer seems to have had a seizure. I had to hold in the power button for 5 seconds to force a system reboot. After rebooting, the illuminated letters at the back of the system flashed yellow and I saw the blue screen of death referring to the iaStor.sys file. In panic, I kept rebooting but nothing would work :-( I finally decided to disconnect everything but my speakers and monitor. After rebooting, I received a keyboard failure message. After reconnecting the keyboard and again rebooting, the system booted normal. I am happy that I managed to get it to boot but I am concerned about future problems. I cannot backup my data right now as my Windows installation will not allow me to burn cd's :-( and my external is full and a new external is too much money right now. So hopefully the system will be okay. For anyone else having the same problem, try disconnecting everything then rebooting then reconnecting and rebooting. By the way, I have the 8400 series. Have a pleasant day, John.

Brand new VAIO "S" Series with an i5, crashes randomly late last night and has been restarting ever since, no matter what you do. It's a blue screen that says something like this: IRQL_more or less. Also I spotted the IASTOR.SYS failure. Is this Malware that caused a hardware problem? Is it that the components suck? I owned a Core 2 Duo Vaio before, FW Series to be precise, never had problems... This one has never been dropped, less than 45 days old.

I just purchased a dell N5010 laptop in Feb 2011. I have ecountered the error codes "IASTORUI has stopped working" "DATA Safe Online has stopped working" and "Micrsoft has stopped working" Since this is new laptop I called Dell Support they did a remote access in but before went further dell informed me it was a software problem and I would need to purchase a software contract for $239. Disappointing. In reading I did an extensive diagnostic F12 checked the OS no errors I am able to get on internet. The Dell Dock is gone. Any suggestions?

Just had a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop in our shop. It was purchased in Feb of 2010 and is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and it had this exact issue. I pulled the hard drive, saved the data then reformatted and reinstalled Windows 7.

Just wanted to add my thanks to this forum. I have an XPS 400 with two RAID-1 mirrored drives purchased in December '05. Suddenly, last week, it refused to boot with the infamous stop D1 in iastor.sys. Changing the BIOS SATA option did not enable it to boot. So I removed each drive in turn, put them in an USB enclosure and ran the full multi-hour chkdsk from a different PC. Luckily, upon replacing the disks the machine successfully booted and I applied the driver update.
